Ambush near Jonstown

Ilduvu surrounded, but too hard to get down

Another fine RQ evening yesterday, with the party liberating a group of prisoners destined for Pimper's block. When Giomanach's enemy Ilduvu shows up, the fight goes nasty, and the party needs every resource they possess, as well as the aid of the liberated prisoners, to save their sorcerer from being hacked to bits by the Griffin Shape nemesis.

Never stand in a dinosaur's way.

Triceratops charging through the caravan

We started playing RuneQuest again yesterday, the story will appear on the Hiording Blog shortly. Alex, Anthony, Ben, Maxim and Urbain showed up for a session, they intended to escape The Ernaldori tula and head east. We're using RQ6, a sandbox adventure of my own, and some of the NPC's courtesy of Erkki's new Enemy Generator for RQ6, which turns out to be a great tool, albeit not completely finished.

40K Armageddon

During a bit of DIY at our clubhouse I had a nice distraction with a bunch of members playing a big armageddon battle on a 6' x 8' table. Here are some pictures of the battle. Some amazingly painted miniatures on there, and others that were not so amazing.

Rearranged hirst block storage

After some testing by fellow clubmember Ben we purchased a heap of these small three drawers units for storing our cast hirstblocks before assembly. The shop only had these left, in all kinds of frivolous colours, so we now have a mix. I think 9 more will complete the rack and offer us a lot of separated storage. Following an idea of other clubmember Peter I am now manufacturing drying racks, with a simple wooden frame and birdcage fence, to solve the problem of cardboard boxes saturating with the water from the drying blocks. All around air, that should allow for optimal drying, short of installing an hot air oven, of course.

Improvements at the HQ clubhouse

We more or less finished the new wall, got some new lockers for our members, and mounted a wide door.  Now the side window remains to be closed, we're looking at that.  The thermal insulation has already improved with the new wall, the total effect will of course be a lot more impressive.

HQ marathon

Gamers are a weird breed, and the ones at HQ even more so.  Someone came up with the idea of organizing a 24 hour non-stop gaming session, and behold, a small dozen of gaming geeks responded to the call.  From 9 AM, our gamers played a succession of boardgames, and we went over to support such brave behaviour, although we had no intention of doing a 24 hour tour ourselves.
Still fresh and in high spirits, after a mere 7 hours of gaming everyone is still looking fresh and crispy.
A rules dispute? Grognard alert?  Or are they just posing for the photo?
My kids love games, and they did not want to miss this, so by noon we were participating.  Mind you, my daughter, aged 7, I escorted back home by 6 pm, but my son stayed and played a scenario of RuneQuest with us until well after 2 AM the next day, at which time I had to break the scenario off in the middle of a fight, much to the dismay of said son, who would not have objected to staying until 9 AM like the rest of the gamers.  That would have put me in a difficult domestic dillemma, however, so I ruled against it.

Runequest Scenario in Nymie Valley

A number of new and existing players went along for an introduction scenario of Runequest.  Our heroes manage to kill and enslave a bunch of trolls, and save a Lunar Tax collector, so it was not their finest moment, but there was a lot of laughing and sexual innuendos so everyone was happy!  The story will be appearing on the campaign blog shortly - that is once I get my ipad to do what I want.

A game of Malifaux

My opponent Jens (r) and myself playing Malifaux
Last Friday I had a introductory game of Malifaux at our game club.  With the help of experienced players we had a little battle, me getting a recon task and Jens had to pick up an object.  First thing I did was surround said object with all my troops, and when Jens split up his troops, a few lucky rolls made sure the game went my way.  Good fun, I'm definitely getting a 'team' once I can decide what to get.  Only trouble will be painting them up, considering I still have about one thousand other minis to paint by next week.

Another club house update

We finished the front wall of the sanitary booth.  The bar has been finished too, minus the plastic profiles.
Christophe behind his painted bar.  This is only the first layer, but already it's looking sexy!
over half a day of work for Tim, to just clean up 1/3 of the wall: work you'll never know happened, but nonetheless very necessary!

Started working in the new HQ club house

It has been some time since the last upgrade, partially because I am working hard on my WW2 game to be presented at Crisis 2011, but also because I recently joined the HQ wargame club in Sint Niklaas.
They are open for business Friday and Saturday, and I have been playing several fun games there in the weeks since I joined, which I am trying to list here:
Roll through the ages (a civilization version of Yahtzee)

Bang (Western card game)

Dominant Species (Darwin revisited)

Big City (You could call it a boardgame of the Sim City computer game)

Pandemic (Coop game where you can save the earth or let it perish)

Our wargame club - I am an official member since last Friday - is moving to new premises sometimes soon, and this new place needs some serious work.  Here's our webmaster Bram hard at work putting up electricity for the bar area.  The bar itself is gonna be 5 meters long!
