Some new goodies based...

Rackham Barbarians
Hasslefree Bar Dwellers

I'm working on the Mad Knight lot, it seems the trolls are gonna get done first, I don't know why, but I'm always painting them up first. A lot of variety in this range, you gotta love them, even though you can see the evolution, the earlier ones are a bit cruder, although full of detail, and the more recent mini's - I think they are - have a better finish, better proportions. But maybe I'm wrong, maybe there's two sculpters, love them all though. Meanwhile I based these lads up, I bought them at Salute earlier this year. With these based I have barely any lead left, although there is still a lot to paint that is based and even primed.

The sound of industry

Left to right, trollkin, dara happans and imperials, trolls and broos, and some already painted trolls and adventurers
Slowly but surely I am getting back into the habit of spending a few hours working in the hobby room every week. I finished repairing the last batch, and giving them a good protective coating. I managed to start the new classification system in the rpg room, so I can find specific NPC's more easily. And I just finished whitewashing a bunch of miniatures, including trolls, trollkin, lunars, and a few broos. That way I can have my 30 minutes of painting every day, just pick up where I left off the day before, and slap on some paint.
Here they are in all their glory. The Mad Knight Imperials in particular look great, and I look forward to painting them a lot! Probably gonna be finished first, after the painted ones are ready, of course. With the Glorantha miniature kickstarter's lots of new miniatures coming up, I need to make some room before the end of the year!

Workbench update

Some slightly modded Otherworld trolls.

A lot of stuff lying around screaming for attention. I order to get the blog moving again, I'll try to regularly update with some stuff I'm working on.

I use the Otherworld orcs as RQ dark trolls, some slight adaption of the snout is in order.

Repairing some damage

No coating means damage

Here's a view of my workbench at the moment. The cold, wet weather has offered me very few opportunities to varnish my miniatures, and I took the risk of using them ingame uncoated, expecting some inor repairs as a consequence.

Sadly, the box used for transport was inadequate, and my miniatures suffered some serious damage during the trip back. Being slightly discouraged, it took me some time to ge started on the repairs, it is a lot of work, and in some cases it means repainting parts completely.

Still, at least I'm back in business, did some work on the boat as well, in order to have everything ready for when we pick up again.

That time of the month

That time of the month where you realize you haven't been posting a lot about your miniatures and terrain work. There has been a lot happening under the hood, new modular interior terrain, i've been working on the warship, and a lot of painted miniatures are waiting for some last minute retouches - some handling damage because we played with them - and some above zero dry weather so I can varnish them and give them some much needed protection. Expect more on this soon (tm).

Te new scorpion man, looking like the first one

Another fellow on my desk is a new scorpion man conversion, again a joint venture between a giant scorpion and a nude berserker. Here's a pic of that one, he's good to go, just needs varnish as well. With the freezing cold being less of an issue, I hope to varnish all the new miniatures early next week.

Ben the great troll

Ben the great troll.  You should see his brother Jerry!
Here's one of the miniatures I have received from Madknight Casting last week.  I have a lot of stuff still on my work table that I'm gonna finish first, but I just wanted to show the impressive quality of the miniature.  Plus, finding a real Glorantha troll is not so easy, I'm very glad the choice got so much bigger!

For comparison I put a Reaper assassin next to our friend Ben.

The workbench

The downside to batch painting is that it looks as if you're not doing much.  I have a magnetic board with 30 odd miniatures on it, that I am painting in batch mode:  All the base colours are painted in series, and it isn't until the miniatures are almost finished that I start taking them aside one by one to finish up the highlights and washes, details and so on.  So here is the current board:
Leftish to right (picking out a few figs) you see Reapers Fafnir, Holay Warrior, Dara Happan, a dryad, an Esrolian, an Orlanth priest, a Merchant, The red emperor himself, a gang of Dragonewts, a Babeester Gori, a Healer, female Orlanthi, Vingan, a few I'm not sure about, then Jar Eel standing at the back, some Lunars, some Satyrs, a clan chief, King Broyan, and so on.  I have 3 more like this ready for painting, a total of about 130 new RuneQuest miniatures.
The next batches are more troop-y: a bunch of Lunars, Dara Happan, Yelmalians, clan militia, slingers, archers, villagers, nobles, and so on.

The workbench

Not a lot of updates lately, and funnily enough that's not because I haven't been busy, quite the contrary.  Between visits to the game club, DIY sessions in the new Club House, I managed to continue the painting of a lot of Lance and Laser Glorantha Miniatures, as well as finally base some of the cheapo minis I got at Crisis 2009.  Here's a gang of skeletons, as well as some BTD Babylonians that'll become Dara Happans and some Greeks, both mounted and on foot, about to become Lunar troops and Yelmalio lords.
