First Morokanth sculptinisation

Here's Master Bif, Morokanth Warrior and gourmet extraordinaire
Hard to find a miniature Morokanth for the Glorantha universe, so I am having a go at sculpting one myself. The body shape is getting there, it just needs a bit more flab on the arse. I quite like the pose, lunging with the short spear, it is gonna be used for RPG after all, so a bit of violent appearance is always good.

I'm giving it a wicker shield with a nasty pin, still thinking whether they'll be prudish enough to wear some kind of loincloth, or if they'd rather walk around tackle out, swinging freely in the Prax morning air. Other bits of must have equipment: a chain for the herdmen, some pack, and animistic tidbits like skull, some boney things, or bird feathers maybe.

Now that's a hairy back! Rawr!
Last but not least a funny looking helmet may finish it off, but maybe that's just too much...

Hairy tummy, pair of ears, and a slade Neckcarpet: we're on track!

Another update: face mostly done

Custom PC finished: Raiko Ingilli

Raiko Ingilli, Zola Fel initiate.
Alexander needed a riverfolk noble with a scimitar. As reported in a previous thread, I converted two miniatures to have a foot and mounted version. Here it is painted up.

New RQ scenario

Somewhere along the Zola Fel
Mornik's gang attack the camp
For the last few weeks we have been playing some very enjoyable scenarios located in Prax. The party has been clearing out chaos, has been sucked into a heroquest and aided Orlanth in capturing Daga. The full stories will appear on the Hiording blog shortly. This blog has been retitled to 'A Colymari in Corflu' to stay in the mood.

Test building for the Big Rubble

Made out of Hirst blocks
In parallel with making buildings for New Pavis, I'm also preparing a set of ruins for the Rubble. Or at least I intend to. Here's my first attempt, still a WIP,of a nice ruin in Manside. I'm gonna go for a mix of a few styles, ranging from egyptian to babylonian, I hope it'll look convincing. I'm gonna roughen this one up a bit, and then paint it and see what it looks like.

Backing up Glorantha

Rejoice!  On November 18th, Rick Meints has launched the Guide to Glorantha / Argan Argar Atlas project on kickstarter, with a target of $36.500.
Update: the project hit 75K! Go East! – We will super-detail Kralorela and Teshnos down to the small city level.
The Genertela overview map from the AAA.
There are several more stretchmarks, with additional areas that will be detailed, and who wouldn't want a fully detailed atlas?  So all you Gloranthaphiles, go join the horde, you know you want to!  I did, I am getting a nice hardcover GtG and the AAA, plus PDFs, so you can call me a happy bunny!  The tome is practically system-free, so will work for RQ/HQ or any other system you might want to use.  The artwork is inspired, in places it's downright brilliant, and it's gonna add so much flavor to the playing experience, I can hardly wait.

New Pavis update

Far from finished (The rubble is gonna be a particularly hard task :D) but here is an update with some hills I got at crisis, a few palm trees, and some of the buildings I am working on.  The Pavis temple is basecoated as well, I'm hoping to be able to finish some more stuff this week.  I am particularly happy with how the new buildings turned out.

Palm tree bonanza

At Crisis, I bought a nice collection of basic palm trees in various sizes from minibits ( Pendraken ) and then I ran into a booth offering these palmtrees with a twist, completely painted, just needed to put a metal base underneath for stability. These will never make it on a desert table for historical games, but they look just the part for my Praxian oasises in RuneQuest, so I got both bags, a bit of basing and washing, and pronto!

Custom PC miniatures

My players like playing with miniatures: they need to have visual clues when roleplaying, and most of them also play miniature games like Warhammer and Malifaux.  They like to have miniatures fitting their character, and preferably both a mounted and unmounted version.  Now there are some manufacturers that offer a few of those, but nowhere near a full range.  It's even harder if you're not playing traditional medieval.  So often the only resource is modding.

One of my players' characters is a Riverfolk Noble, so we were looking for a mix between a gypsy, a mongol and a saracen, something along those lines :)  We found a Reaper rider that more or less looked the part, be it a bit modest, and a Reaper foot figure with a cape and scimitar, although he wore armor and a helmet, which he didn't want.

Decapitated the foot figure, prepared a head, and repositioned the lance arm on the rider

So I took out the ole Dremel and my huge set of mini-lathes and drills, as well as a big blob of grey stuff, and I adapted the miniatures as requested.  Talk about spoiled players :)

Added the head to the footie, sculpted the scarf and headband, and sculpted the shoulder pads on the rider.  On the right the sword which teh rider will have holstered behind his saddle.

Temple of Pavis in New Pavis - WIP

Made out of pu foam and porous tack
Here is the foam model of what is to become the Pavis temple in New Pavis. It's a bit underscale, if not it would become near to useless, but it'll evoke the new pavis feeling just fine, I'm sure. Next job is a brush paintcoat with thinned black acryl paint and a big brushing session to get the dirt brown look I want for the wall and the pink / brown look I want the pyramid to have.

Dark troll skeletons!

Here are the dark troll skeletons I painted this week:  painting these is a breeze, 80% drybrushing, and I finished all four in about 2 hours.  And they look fine for the game table...

Harrek and Friends

Well, technically they're not all friends, but here are a few personalities from the Lance and Laser series I finished this week.  I can only repeat that working 2 or 3 figures at a time is a way more productive way that trying to paint 40 at once.  It may seem like more efficient if you use one colour on 15 figures at once, but progress is too slow, and you get demotivated.  Way better to see one or  two miniatures finished after a good long session.

State of the workbench

The miniatures based and assembled!
After having worked through most of my remaining Lance And Laser RQ stuff, I have finished cleaning, assembling and basing most of my remaining Mad Knight miniatures. As soon as I have the room and time I'll spray the basecoat on, and I can start painting the miniatures.

The large left part - on the paper - is a lot of trolls and big broo, as well as four great troll skeletons. The right row, top to bottom: Red Mask assassins (6), imperial bodyguard (6) and little broo (6), with two female Humakti and a Humakti Cross on the right edge of the picture!

And some Uzzzzz...

These are the Uz I have painted this week.  You can notice the different style between the two pictures, but it's no sweat, they're all good.  I'm working on yet another style of models, from Mad Knight Castings, but these are Otherworld - with slightly depigged noses - and Lance and Laser.  I'm still working on a rational for some female Uz having six breasts and other only two.  I think six is better, because more breasts > less breasts.

The rest of last weeks yield

Since a few weeks my production has gone up tremendously.  I have painted quite a lot of miniatures, about 2 per day, with simpler colours, but good enough for the game table...with hundreds of miniatures, one has to adopt a degree of practicalism, rather than taking 2 months to try and paint a unit of miniatures as well as possible.  Here is what I painted / or at least finished between wednesday and today.

Nice Fire wizard, sold as L&L Minaryth Purple

Some simple mini's I got at Crisis 11: assassin and old man

A nice little goblin archer, I think it was Hasslefree

A band of broo

Another batch of miniatures just about ready: these are a bunch of Lance and Laser broo I painted up recently.  still needs the final touches, but I prefer making pics first and playing with them a bit so I find every spot I forgot.  These were a lot of fun to paint, and I'm happy to say I'm in a good flow for painting, with 2 miniatures a day on average.

New RuneQuest Miniatures

I've been quite busy during the last few weeks, we have been playing the overture of our RQ6 Pavis campaign, but I also found the time to paint or finish quite a few miniatures:
Mad Knight: Cannibal Victim, Witch and Harvesting Young Girl

Mad Knight: 2 Priests and a Witch

Mad Knight: Victim Scene but now with blood drinking chief

Mad Knight: Three Youngsters

Don't remember where from, but funny kids

Hasslefree: Kids with dog menacing old lady

RuneQuest 6 scenario 1

Herculon and Daerius charge forward, while Jaya prepares her bow and Giomanach starts casting Palsy
We had the last session of our first scenario yesterday. In it the party ran into what was left of a party of ogres masquerading as Etyries traders. Since the encounter took place in the chaparral, far away from civilisation, and since the party was coming from the direction of the ogre lair they cleaned out just before, both sides realised on sight that there would be no pretending. The adventurers charged on sight, leaving the ogre animist little opportunity to prepare, and only one managed to summon its ancestor spirit in time.

They then returned to Pavis to check out the shop the ogres were running, and had what one could call 'a good day' with lots of goods they could sell, plus they got a four wheeled wagon out of the deal. Time for some well deserved R&R and training now...

Miniatures are Amazon (cart), Mad Knight (cannibals), and a mix with some L&L in the distance.

Some new Pavis terrain

Our RPG table with the lighting switched on
I needed some underground for chaparal and desert terrain, and I decides to try out using a vulcanized rubber sheet as underground, with a brown and white mix of paint dabs for a bit of variation. I took a few minutes to prepare a few cast rock formations and drybrush them, and the result is quite nice, if I say so myself.

Loz Whitaker on TDM: Glorantha soon(er)!

Here's what Loz posted on the TDM forum concerning the Glorantha development roadmap:

Concerning our plans for Glorantha.

Its clear people want us to do something. It was the question most asked of me at Gencon, and so we are accelerating our plans a little (a LITTLE, I hasten to add). The likelihood of Gloranthan publications will be something like this:

RuneQuest: Adventures in Glorantha (yes, it steals, shamelessly, the title of the never-published RQIV, but it has to be done). This will be a general introduction to the lozenge plus all the rules tweaks and chargen tweaks needed to play in Glorantha. And it will be 3rd Age.

Stat Packs: Probably free PDFs to accompany Moon Design's releases such as Sartar, Pavis and Harrek. Before we can release these, we need RQ:AiG.

Setting: We'll be taking a region of Glorantha and developing the bejesus out of it. Yes, we know which area. Its all agreed with Moon Design and its one Pete and I love to bits.

Scenarios: To support the Setting. Additional scenarios, expansions, and so on. Some will be free PDFs, some will be full books.

With the setting we want to recreate that RQ2 'Borderlands' or 'Pavis' feel: s place that RQ Glorantha players feel is theirs, and detailed enough to capture the imagination, but not so detailed as to deter newcomers. Which is why the region we've been given is so perfect and exciting.

I won't say more than the above until we're in a position to offer some more concrete details. But this gives you an idea of what we have planned.

Artist impression of Pairing Stones

Here is a digital impression for my adventure this weekend:

Outside of New Pavis, the most mythically important regional holy place for Sartarites is the Pairing Stones. This remarkable pair of menhirs is located on a rocky bluff about 60 miles northwest of Pavis. One is pale blue and the other is pale brown. Both are some 25 feet high and tilt slightly towards on another. Here it is easy to contact Orlanth; one of the sons of Orlanth was wed at this place and, after he died the final time, was burned and apotheosized. Many traditionalist Sartarite clans perform secret ceremonies here such as initiation and heroquests. The Pairing Stones are currently under the control of the powerful Bullford Clan and their Storm Voice Farangar Horseteeth.
